Surface Atlas

A buying map for TFL / HPL / melamine within 250 miles of Pell City, AL 35128. The user does not care about individual colors or design decks.

The site must answer three questions:

Product language

• TFL = thermally fused laminate (décor paper fused to particleboard or MDF). Shop floor often says “melamine.”
• HPL = high-pressure laminate sheets (Formica, Wilsonart, Pionite, Nevamar). Glued onto a substrate.
• Compact = thick solid HPL, no wood core.
• Laid-up = HPL already pressed to plywood/particleboard at the distributor.
• Edgebanding = matching edge for TFL/HPL programs.
• Do not treat TFL and HPL as the same product.

Design rules

• Default view: manufacturer coverage grid (house × mill), plus Min / If-stocked / Mill-order columns.
• Secondary: directory list with min + lead + drive time.
• Optional: mind map of mills / houses / mins / lead times.
• Dark, editorial, sparse. No color chips. No fake live inventory.
• Every house: phone, address, hours if known, who they sell to, mill list, min, pickup, truck, mill-order time.
• Footer honesty: compiled August 2026 from manufacturer locators and distributor line cards. Confirm on the phone.
